Did you hear Scottsdale is turning 75 and activities are planned all year long? As part of the celebration, Old Town visitors are invited to participate in a community art project featuring a custom-built horse named Sonora. The activity, “Pony Expressions with Sonora,” asks visitors to share favorite memories of Scottsdale to the collaborative art sculpture.
About Sonora.
The creative team at Scottsdale Artists’ School designed Sonora and the elements visitors will use to craft her by focusing on Scottsdale’s history and cultural roots. Sonora is made of wire – each individual piece is meticulously woven together to create the 75″ high by 75″ wide structure. Although Sonora looked quite bare at her debut appearance, she will grow! As participants affix pony-colored fabrics like leather and cotton with their Scottsdale sentiments, her mane, tail and hooves will come to life!
How to Participate?
At select 2026 events, attendees can craft messages sharing memories of Scottsdale and special sentiments to affix to Sonora and help her grow. At the end of the year, Sonora will represent countless memories and hearts in the community.
